Math and Science with Mr Taylor
After doing the Virtual DNA Lab activity reflect upon the following questions. Please number your answers for ease of reading.

1)  Have you ever done a DNA Lab before?  If yes explain what you did and your impressions.

2)  Did you learn about any new Lab Equip[ment?  If so list the items and try to explain what you can about them.

3)  Why do you think we are using strawberries instead of human cheek cells?

1) no
2) yes i learned the step to do a DNA lab
3) Because it would be easier for us as student ...

I love the virtual lab!!! It made me have connections to the STL Science Center. My middle school years. The information in lab is very accurate, and precise I love it!!! :) XP

No, I have never done a DNA lab before.I learned that DNA strands are extremely light. I think we're using strawberries instead of human cheeck cells, because it's safer and we can't mess with human DNA.

1.) No I Have Not Done A DNA Lab Before.

2.) I Learned About The Emergency Shower. It Is Basiclly Self Expainatory. It's An Emergency Shower That Is Used When A Harmful Chemical Substance Is Spilled On A Student.

3.)They Are Similiar In Substance And Structure So, It Would Be Easier For Us To Use Them Instead Of Our Own, Or Someone Else's Cells.

1.) I never did a DNA Lab before today, but I have done a dissection.

2.) I learned that buccal swabs are used to collect DNA. The micropipettor was used when transfering the liquids back and forth. I knew that they did this, but I never knew the names for them.

3.) I think that the strawberries will be easier to see but I'm not sure.

No i have never done a DNA lab before. Yes i learned about more tools like, the testing mechine. The testing mechine told if the DNA was a match or not. Because the strawberries would be more easier and if you use human cells it can be risky. i really dont think people in high school should work with real human parts......

2)Yes, the microcentrifuge, a buccal swap, and lysis solution
3)Because it would be easier for us to use something from the environment then human parts to experiment.

1.Yes I did, my experience happend at Compton Drew ILC middle school. We had gloves, different types of solution, micropepettors, fruit (strawberry),and a partner.
2.No, lessons learned and satrurated in my mind.
3.STRAWBERRYS STRAWBERRYS STRAWBERRY MMMMMMHN!!! They are easy to tell the difference between their life and DEATH (Evil voice: hee he heeee) and they are a preferably short process.

yes but it was an online DNA Lab i did an experiment on an humans cheek first i took a swab of the humans toung and then i put the toung cells in some type of liquid put it in a mechine and it gave us the results weather the DNA was a match or not. yes scapel it cuts things i really dont know put i think it would be useful to use than a humans cheek

1) No i haven't did this , but now younq man I have done a disection lab with Jasmine !!!!!

2) I learned about all the solutions and the DNA machine !!! Never say one before and I think the water produces more heat or steam !!! So the process works faster !!! Also that the DNA strands are light !!!

3) I think we are using strawberries instead of humans because a strawberry is still technical living !!! Because when it get bad and start going old its still living !!! Also when it molds !!! But most important if we use a human blood they can be sick or something and we might not know it and we get sick !!! But we cant get sick of of the strawberries !!! And most important we can EAT THE STRAWBERRIes !!!! d[*_*]b

No until I have done a virtual DNA lab befor.Yes I have learn some new equipment .The reason I think we are using strawberries is a better example than to us a human cheek cell.

Excellent postings. Some of you put a good amount of thinking into this.

Now read one another's post...let's discuss what we learnwed as a group...and we then will be prepared for our hands on lab activity...
