Discuss what you learned about by doing this lab...what was fun or excited you.

Did doing the virtual lab help you to understand the actual hands on lab ?

Could you do this lab at home for friends or family?  If so, what materials would you need?

Honestly over all ...., I learned nothing. I say that because I've already had this experience. But I did have fun!! ... sort of :/ Yes, I actually learn things better orally, or HANDS ON. Yeah I would, it'll be fun with my little sister! (Materials: idione salt, shampoo or liquified soap,fruit,water,stirring sticks, and cups) <ibelieve I've said all there is about materials>

I Learned Alot From This Lab. I Learned That For One, DNA Can Be Extracted. It Was Very Fun And Allowed Me To See DNA Up-Close And Personal. Yes, The Virtual Showed Exactly What Each Substance Did, And The Effect It Had On The Organism.Yes, I Could Do This At Home With Friends. I Would Strawberries, Salt, Shampoo, A Strainer, Cups, Gloves, And A Stick.

This was a fun activity because I wasn't confused about what to do. We watched a tutorial before we did the lab which helped a lot. I learned that we can actually see DNA by doing simple steps.

Yes, doing the virtual lab helped me understand the hands on lab.

Yes, I could do this lab at home for friends or family. I would need a couple strawberries, two cups, a cheesecloth, gloves, stirring stick, and ice cold rubbing alcohol.

By doing this lab I learned that DNA [when in a bunch] looks gooey, I also learned that it's easy to extract it from vegetable and things like fruits. It was fun, because I got to learn new things.

The virtual lab showed me how scientists extract DNA, and the proper procedures. While the actuall lab show me how to do it with everyday items. It helped me understand why we did, what we did

I could easy do this lab at home and all I would need is:
-Salt
-Strawberries
-Detergent
-Water
-Rubbing Alcohol
-Cheese Cloth
-And paper cups

1)I know how to do a DNA extraction with furit and the fact that it wasn't hard to do.
2)Kinda
3)Yes.You would need furit,two paper cups,salt,water and rubbing alcohol in ice.

Doing this lad i learned that finding DNA is not that hard. I also learned that there are many things that you can find DNA in many things like fruits. The part when i saw some of the result, is was excited me.

Yes, this lab did help me understand more. It helped me understand because i didnt know that you could find DNA that easly.

Yes, i can go home and do this lab with family and friends. If so i world need;
-Rubbing Alcohol, cheese cloth, water, gloves, salt, shampoo, strawberries, and plactic cups.

By doing the lab i learned that I can extract DNA from that are living and things that used to be living.

The virtual lab did help me since the virtual and hands on lab were the same process but in a different way.

Yes, I could do this experiment at home for friends. The materials I would need would be strawberries, shampoo, salt, cups, alcohol, and a cheese cloth.

I learned what the DNA strands looked like. Also I learned the process the scientist use to get to the cells. Future more I would say that the process is very simple. This lab was fun to me because I never did this before. Also I had very good results and I had a lot of DNA strands. The reason my DNA strands were so good is because I followed the instructions step by step. So when I got to the end I added a little more alcohol and shampoo so the liquid and stuff could come together more.

The virtual lab really did not help me because they did not use the same materials that we used. Overall it helped me because it gave us a look at what we were going to be doing.

Yes, I could do this project at home because it’s very simple and not a lot of money to get these supplies. Also it would be possible because you can do this to see what will happen or if you’re bored.

Materials

* Cheese Cloth
* Strawberries or Peaches
* Ice Cold Alcohol
* Gloves
* Plastic Cups
* Stirring Sticks
* Goggles
* Strainer
* Cooking Salt
* Shampoo

These were some excellent replies...they spanned from learning a lot to not much because of previous exposure. I am glad to hear you could list the materials and equipment needed so easily.

Keep in mind however, materials are consumed...and equuipment is reused.

Good work!

Also when we mixed the shampoo and alcohol in the cup i didnt stir it i swirled the cup so the DNA wouldnt brake up !
